A boiler’s working life, and whose duty is whose
Two-part figure. Second, who is responsible for what around that boiler, as three separate parties. The owner of the equipment: Holds the statutory duty, and appoints the approved inspection authority in writing. The approved inspection authority: Performs the statutory inspection, witnesses the hydraulic test, and issues its certificate. Aitec: Repairs and maintains the boiler and its auxiliary equipment. Prepares plant for an inspection — cleaning, opening up, removing and reinstating lagging. Overhauls and hydraulically tests valves in our own shop, with a certificate issued. Carries out the repairs an inspection calls for, alongside the authority the owner appointed. The owner's duty runs to a fixed rhythm, listed under that party: External inspection of a fire-tube steam generator every 12 months; Witnessed hydraulic test and crack detection of critical welds every 36 months. Aitec does not act as the approved inspection authority.

Why a repair does not become a chain of subcontractors.
Valve refurbishing shop
Boiler valves of all makes overhauled and hydraulically pressure tested, with a test certificate issued. Collection and delivery.
The valve work a boiler repair depends on is not subcontracted.
Electrical shop
Boiler control panels built and refurbished. Burners overhauled — LPG, heavy oil and gas. Motors and pumps repaired.
A boiler that will not fire is often an electrical or burner fault, not a pressure-part fault.
Insulation shop
Cladding fabricated for piping, boilers, tanks and vessels — stainless steel, aluminium, galvanised sheeting, chromodek.
Lagging removed for a repair or an inspection has to be made good afterwards.
